Antide Janvier, great French clockmaker of the late 18th and early 19th century, was born in the Jura. He began his career as an apprentice watchmaker after having presented at age 15 an astronomical sphere he had built. During his life, he gained a reputation of an ingenious maker of complicated clocks including many astronomical clocks. He was not only a distinguish artist, but an art lover and connoisseur in many things. He authored and published an important textbook on the theory and practice of watchmaking so as the written accounts of 12 of his very original timekeepers. The largest concentration of his masterworks open tho the public is found at the Musée Paul Dupuy in Toulouse. In this second completed and enlarged edition, all clocks from the previous edition are numbered and presented and added with 44 new clocks including their technical and historical details.
