Britten's Handbook, which ran to no less than fifteen editions between 1881 and 1955, has long been out of print and expensive to obtain. Anyone who has not seen the Handbook can have little idea how useful it is. The definitions, illustrations, tools, processes and theory found in this work are quite indispensable. If the practical horologist (to say nothing of thew collector or dealer) were allowed just one desert island book, then this would be a wealth of now almost forgotten information, some of which was omitted from the later revised editions. Eleventh edition, new impression with 400 illustrations.
