2655 - Watches and Clocks in the Sir David Salomons Collection

DANIELS George/MARKARIAN Ohames

RARE BOOK AND AS NEW

The book came out in 1980 when the collection of Sir David Salomons was in view of the L.A. Mayer Memorial Institute in Jerusalem. This is where Breguet's Marie Antoinette watch was stolen and found again many years later. In addition to Breguet, seventy other makers are represented including Leroy, Dubois, Piguet & Meylan, Thomas Mudge, Lefèvre, Charles Frodsham and John Arnold. There are even a number of items made for the Turkish and Japanese markets. The catalogue contains a general introduction with a brief history of the art of watchmaking and analysis of Breguet's work by George Daniels and an introduction note on automata and musical boxes as well as scientific instruments. All 191 works in the collection, ranging from perpétuelles, clock-watches, rolling-ball clocks and montres à tact to self-wsinding timepieces, carriage clocks and regulators are described, dated and illustrated, some with as many as four views.
